ASW 2010 Is Over And I’m Ready To Rock

Well… Affiliate Summit West 2010 is finally over and I’m ready to get back into the grind.  Before I do though I want to tell you about the event.  I’m sure you have seen everyone else posting about it, and while I’m sure they have a lot of great things to say about the conference… I unfortunately do not.

The Affiliate Summit conferences in general are very good.  I enjoy them and I will continue to attend them.  BUT… I honestly do not like going to the main event.  The summit is way too crowded.  It’s hard to walk around the meet market. I walked in… Tried to get to the back of the room… Got half way and turned around.  It wouldn’t be so bad if the tables were just a little bit farther apart.  The problem arises when you have 10 affiliates (for example) trying to stand in front of one table. You can imagine the congestion that arises. I think the problem with the meet market could have been alleviated if there were multiple entrances to the event.  I think affiliates need to also realize that the meet market is where you go to meet new contacts that you can go back to during the actual event. It’s called a MEET MARKET.  Not a STOP AND DO BUSINESS RIGHT THEN AND THERE MARKET.  Okay… So I might be blowing this out of proportion.  But seriously the meet market is way crowded and way hot on the inside.

The actual exhibit itself is awesome.  It’s not as crowded as everything is spaced apart pretty well.  The point of the actual exhibit is where you can go to meet those new advertisers or new networks that you found during the meet market.  It is a place of business where million dollar deals are being made.  Some booths do it better than others by creating an environment that affiliates want to be at.  Convert2Media has this down to the “T”.  They know what affiliates want. Other networks… Unfortunately don’t know what they are doing.

I’ve been apart of exhibits at convention centers for YEARS.  From the time I was a little kid I remember my mom taking me to the PDX Convention Center to help her in a booth at the craft shows.  Granted a craft show is different then an affiliate show the same concept of “GET PEOPLE TO YOUR BOOTH” still applies. If a booth has people sticking around then they know whats up.  Next time you are at a convention take a good look at who is in the booth and who isn’t.  Walk down the isles and take a peak at which booth has a bunch of people around it.  You can almost look at networks and their booths are your affiliate landing page.  Which network gets it?  Which network is getting the traffic and which is getting the conversions? eh… It’s a silly analogy but it makes sense to me…

If you want to learn you can definitely learn a lot by going to one of these events.  There are plenty of speakers just make sure you get the right pass so that you can sit in on a session.  Who knows, maybe one day I’ll get up and talk about PPV advertising.  I don’t go to the sessions though so I wouldn’t be able to tell you which ones are good to sit in on. Just don’t go to a session that you don’t feel would apply to what you are trying to accomplish… Common sense but it had to be said.

My wife came with me to this event and I was excited to show her around and introduce her to many people that she has said “Hi” to over skype. We arrived on Friday morning and just putzed around Vegas.  We caught a show and really just had a good time before ASW on Sunday.  Unfortunately for her she dislocated her shoulder on Saturday.  She’s dislocated her shoulder before but this time she couldn’t get it back in.  I was freaking out.  I know what it feels like to have your arm pop out and just dangle there.  Anyways… We got her to the hospital and they got her all fixed up :)

On Sunday I went to the meet market (By myself cause my wife was hurting)… You already heard about the joy that was so I’ll skip those details. I met up with Ian Fernando and Benny Tejeda.  Were were standing around trying to figure out what to eat when Naomi from Bloosky showed up.  So naturally we convinced her that it would be a good idea to have Bloosky take us out to lunch.  We went on a hunt though.  Apparently everywhere in Vegas closes early on Sundays.  Eventually we found a pretty good sushi bar called Sushi Roku.  It was pretty good and I thank Bloosky for the good food.

Later on that night I headed over to CraftSteak for the Ianteract dinner with Elite Clicks Media.  That was some GOOOOOOD food.  Steak, chicken, salad, and a bunch of other good food.  It was a feast and I thank Ian for having that dinner and ECM for sponsoring it. While at the dinner I sat at the ballers table.  There was Jonathan Volk and his wife (Sorry Maria… Next time my wife will come I promise…), Brandon Hoffman (AdHustler), Ian Fernando, Matt Wasserman, and Logan Thompson. Behind me was Andrew Wee, Kyle Hannah, and some other guy… Across the room was the ECM crew and a couple of their affiliates.

After the dinner I headed over to the PPC.BZ/Nickycakes party.  From there Matt Wasserman and I left to head over to the Karaktr Media party. Hung out there for a few minutes and then Matt and I left back to the PPC.BZ party.  Once that party was done I headed back home.  I was tired…

Monday was a good day.  I woke up late, got to the show late and basically walked to a couple of booths to discuss some business. Stopped by C2M, Clickbooth, MundoMedia, and a few other booths.  Also had a little chat with Ryan Eagle. Around 3:30ish I had a meeting with Adperio and Experian in one of the suits. That went pretty well.  When I left that I just headed home.  Talked with my wife for a bit (She was still hurting so she hung out at the condo), ordered some Chinese food, then headed back out for some more parties.  One of the biggest things that you have to realize is that networking is the best thing you can do for your business.  That’s the only reason why I go to the parties. Networking is key to the success of my business.

Anyways, the evening started out with the Meetup202 event at the Palms. Wes Mahler (Founder of T202) and the owners of Bloosky spoke about the T202/Bloosky merger. At the end several meetup202 organizers gave out tips.  Wes asked me if I would give a tip but I said no.  I wasn’t sure I was going to go to the event because the poor wife was still hurting. Ian’s tip was pretty good.  He gave a tip on PPV. Some weirdy named Ryan basically said to be compliant or die and another guy just started whoring out his product.  Jasper also got up and spoke about … well I honestly don’t know… some lady was sitting next to me and wouldn’t stop talking…

After that event Ian and I headed over to the Mundo Media party. It was good times there.  I finally got to meet Yousif the owner of Profit Kings Media. He wasn’t anything like I expected.  But that’s what happens when you work with people online… You just never know what they are like in person. Todd my business partner also joined me at this point.  From the Mundo Media party we headed over to the CX Digital party in the same tower at the Palms.  That was a pretty decent party.  Hung out a little with Emil from PPC Bully. Emil is a pretty crazy guy… but he is definitely good people.  Also saw Igal Pines there.  He is like the Shoemoney of Israel. I’ve met him at a few events before but never really had the opportunity to talk with him.  Anyways… After the Mundo party Ian, Todd, and I headed over to the Clickbooth Hangover suit party.  That was in a completely different casino so we made our way over there.  Took a bit of time but it was a good trip.  Saw Nick Throlson there and I swung my arm around his shoulder and asked him straight up… I said “Nick… tell me the truth… Do you actually make money online or do you just whore your affiliate link to everyone?” And he told me “I make my money from referrals”.  Had to do the same thing to Murray Newlands as he was at the party as well.  He admitted it.  I just wish I had my video camera. No wonder networks like MarketLeverage and Clickbooth want their nuts so bad. Oh well it’s decent money and I’m not going to knock them for doing it.

Around 3 am Todd and I left the Clickbooth party to go play some Craps.  We meet up with a couple of AMs from Epicenter.  We played till about 4:30 and honestly we all walked away with some money which is always nice.

So… That was my adventure at ASW.  I know I am missing the last day… but that is because I didn’t go.  I told my wife I would spend the day with her and that is what I did.

Honestly I think these types of events are something that you should experience.  Some people say that they don’t want to go because they don’t do that well online… WHO CARES!  The point is to go and network with people that can help your business. I challenge you to go to the next Affiliate Summit event. I promise you won’t regret it.

A Matter of Image Building in the Mind of Customer

This is a guest post by Ben Johnson. Ben is in charge of Marketing & Business Development with LogoInn

In this day and age, one of the most crucial tasks for any business is to stand-out among the immense market competition. Therefore, businesses have to make extra efforts in order to create a unique brand image in the mind of prospective customer.

When we talk about image building, a great logo can help business to create a positive image, while a poorly designed logo can bring a negative impression about a company and its product/service. For many companies, a logo is the only identifiable mark a potential customer may ever see, so it needs to be memorable, describable, and easily recognizable.

The overall design of a company’s logo is crucial to its success. There are hundreds of business logos that have been overlooked or quickly turned away due to nothing more than appearance. When a logo lack in proper designing, it can actually lose a potential customer. When an individual first time sees your business logo that is poorly designed, he is not likely to do a business with you. This is especially true if the logo fails to portray the right image and purpose of a business to the prospect. Hence, as a business owner, be sure to put some time and effort into overall logo design.

Getting a suitable logo may be a daunting task, but it is this crucial initial investment that will ensure your company’s success in a long-run. You should start off by brainstorming about the image your company represents, or the message you want to convey to the public. This will help you to develop a perfect branding tool that will create a strong brand positioning in the mind of a customer.

In times when budgets are slashed, businesses are more focusing towards customer retention. But with customer retention, businesses have to focus on making new customers as well. Your custom logo design can help a lot in this regards. Thus, make sure to develop such a logo that will become a true representation of your business.

Now I have to agree… A logo is at the forfront of your business.  Everything you have should be branded with your logo…That reminds me… shirts finally arrived.

Ben would like to offer you 15% discount on any service ordered at All you need to do is enter this code “MKT-01” while placing an order in the promotion code section.

affbuzzI don’t know about you… But in my spare time I like to see what other people are talking about.  I like to read blogs and forums and find out what the “buzz” is in the Internet/Affiliate Marketing community. was created by Justin Barr of San Francisco, CA. A few days ago I asked Justin why he created the site and this was his reply: “CAUSE I’M GOOD LIKE THAT!”… No I’m just kidding I never asked him that.  But I must say… I wish I was the one who thought it up.

Affbuzz is where I can go in the morning for 15 minutes to see what everyone else in the IM/AM blogosphere is talking about.  I can immediately see which posts are new so that definitely saves me some time. I can also see what the buzz is in certain forums.  The best thing is… I can do it all without opening up 100 different windows.

If you have a blog that you would like to see on don’t be afraid to let Justin know.  Infact… I’ll help you out. Click Here and make a suggestion to Justin.

Here is my own little suggestion for Justin (Lets see if he takes this and runs with it or runs the other direction).  Set up CATEGORIES!.  Tabs at the top of the page that people can click to see just forums, PPC blogs, SEO blogs, Justings “Fav” blogs, Corporate blogs (CPA Networks and Search Networks).  Just a suggestion.  Might make my morning go a little quicker.

Justin you out did yourself on this one.  Excellent job and keep up the good work!

Affiliate From UBD!

If you have been one to make the rounds to the different marketing blogs then you will have no doubt seen that Unique Blog Designs has been hard at work for other bloggers. Today (March 17th) UBD has launched an affiliate marketing product for WordPress that will blow your mind!

This product is for Affiliate Marketers and more specifically for those affiliate marketers that like to use wordpress for LPs and Review style LPs. Take a look at their promo video:

Is that not the koolest WordPress tool you have ever seen! Now don’t get me wrong… This isn’t for those affiliates that can make their own pages and designs. If you can do it on your own then I suggest you do it on your own. But everyday I get asked from affiliates who they can out source design and coding too. A lot of the readers here are new to affiliate marketing and don’t know how to layout div tags or even basic HTML. This tool will solve that problem.

Here is a screen shot of my favorite part of this tool:

affiliatethemes Do you see that? You have complete control over the layout! Complete control over how your review site will look!

Now if you ask me I would suggest getting the middle package. That way you have a license to use this on multiple domains. If however, you aren’t comfortable messing with html and designs then go with the largest package. There are over 30+ designs filled with a whole slew of layouts for review style landing pages. The only thing you have to do is configure the look by selecting drop down boxes and then add your content!

This product just amazes me. I have this running on several campaigns I have running right now. I set it up initially to see how quickly it would take to implement a design. I normally use Dreamweaver, but this has eliminated the NEED to use Dreamweaver for most of my LPs.

Inside of the members area you will find 20+ vids on how to work this system. You will also find some podcasts from other Internet/Affiliate marketers such as Jonathan Volk, Jim Kukral, Yaro Starks, and even Spiderman. This tool is revolutionizing the way that we as affiliate marketers use WordPress to manage our PPC campaigns!

Enough of my blabbing about the product. You really need to jump over to their website and check it out! If you are truely serious about creating a PPC business then this is hands down a product you need in your arsenal! I am only promoting this because it really is a gem to have for those that want a quick and easy way to create LPs. You really need to jump over to their website and read about all of the features this product provides! They even have several examples set up for you to view. If anything, look at the examples so you can get a better idea of what truly great review site should look like!

Christmas Came Early – Not 1 but 2 Free Affiliate Summit West Silver Passes – Hurry and Get Yours ($700 Value)

CashTactics is proud to hold a drawing on behalf of Direct Agents for not 1 but 2 FREE Affiliate Summit West Silver Passes to the conference event taking place on January 11-13, 2009. If I was to talk about one of the biggest turning points in my business, the first thing I would think of is the contacts I’ve made and the networking I’ve done. Making friends within the industry you are trying to build a business within is a very vital aspect in becoming successful and you should start immediately, it will put you way ahead of the learning curve! If you would like the exciting chance to win one of the FREE passes, please read ALL the details that are written below.

First, let me briefly talk about the company that is providing the 2 Free ASW passes. To be completely honest with you, I’ve never personally used them, at least yet. Their name is Direct Agents, they have been in operation for over 5 strong years and are continuing to grow rapidly. Just this year they doubled their office and client base, which says a lot! What I’ve noticed about Direct Agents, are the many exclusive offers they carry and each person I’ve talked to whether on the phone or through the internet has had an amazing attitude and focus heavily on one on one interaction with publishers, that’s a HUGE help especially for new affiliates. The biggest thing that has impressed me with them has been their selfless generosity, they didn’t ask me to write this, I actually offered because a company with characteristics like this is who you want to work with. Just an insider tip, some of their hottest offers right now is DirecTV, Fandango and USO. Each of these offers are goldmines!

So How Do You Win a Free Silver Pass to ASW in Las Vegas?

This is going to be the easiest drawing in the world, all you have to do is sign up for a new account with Direct Agents and your name will be automatically entered into the drawing. If you make a comment below this post or make a video comment telling me why you would like to go to ASW (drawing is open to those who have never been and those who have), your name will be entered in twice, giving you 2x the chances to win and that will greatly increase your odds of getting 1 of the 2 free tickets being given away. Time is short because the conference begins January 11-13, 2009, the winners of the 2 free passes will be selected on Tuesday December 16th (announced on Wed), to allow enough time (approximately 3 ½ weeks) to prepare for the trip to Las Vegas. Please do not enter the drawing if you know for sure you’re not able to go. If you still want to sign up with Direct Agents you can but please notify me that you want out of the drawing. To save on travel expenses, I recommend going to Priceline and buying your plane and hotel together in an area close to the conference hotel, which will save you money. You must sign up for Direct Agents through this post and we will confirm that the chosen winners have opened an account with Direct Agents. Like I said, this is the easiest drawing in the world, you can easily win and I’m guessing many people aren’t able to go or have already bought their ticket, that’s better for you, so sign up now!
