Another style of Landing Pages
Hey everyone. This weekend I have been thinking a lot on the simple little concept of landing pages. I am a HUGE believer in giving people choices over different “brands” of product. We have all seen the websites that review different items. Many of these review style landing pages offer a point system for product or service ratings. These landing pages can command armies of people to buy a specific product!
Why are review style landing pages so powerful? Because people surfing for things online like two things…
- They like to be guided to a products to buy AND they like to be told which of those products is best and which is worst.
- They like to make the choice for themselves which of the products to purchase/choose.
Those two little points are POWERFUL. 1 give them choices. 2 let them make the decision what to do. I always find it funny that when I create a review style landing page, people don’t always choose the offer that I have selected to be the top choice. Even if that offer is the cheaper choice.
When I am making a review style landing page I like to compare 3-5 different offers. I rate these offers on a scale of 1-5. It’s important to not give all of the offers the same score. And if you have 5 offers, make sure you rate one of them a 1. It’s all a psychological thing.
Ready to send out prospect letters.
So I’ve taken a bit of time here and compared all of the sites I gathered. Now I am ready for the next step. That is, I can send out my prospect letters. I now have a nice list of 18 sites that I want to advertise on.
Several of the sites had little to no traffic. And a few had boat loads of traffic. Now if I was new to media buying I would want to advertise on those sites that have around 10,000 visitors a month. However, I still want to prospect all of the sites. You never know who might respond. The person getting 100,000 visitors a month might have no clue about the monetization possibilities and you could get a way robbing the bank with them.
In order to contact the people you will need to have a savvy little letter written up for them. This letter shouldn’t sound generic either. And it should be tailored for them. Something along the lines of:
“Dear ________,
My name is _________ and I was visiting your website ________.com/net/org. I really like how your site is laid out and I was wondering if I could purchase an advertising spot on this page ______<link to page>______. I too have a website in the _______ niche and think that your website would be a great advertising opportunity.
If you are interested I would greatly appreciate it.
Here is my contact information:
<email address>
<phone number>
Thank you for your time,
<your name>
<your email> ”
Now thats not the greatest letter, but for most of these people whose sites we want to target this will suffice. Remember, we want to target the non web savvy people.
I’ve got my URLs now what?
I’m ready to really start sending out advertising inquires to website owners for my Media Buy. I have a list of 30 websites that I would LOVE to advertise on. Some of them are obviously going to be quite expensive. But to help me narrow down my potentials I need to know more about the traffic that they are receiving.
For this I use 4 websites. Quantcast.com, Compete.com, Alexa.com, and Google.com. I’m sure there’s better ways to do this but you have to find what works for you.
Compete and Alexa I use to find the traffic volume. Now, I like to compare websites against a site whose traffic source and volume I am sure of. In other words, I compare traffic against one of my own sites. Compete is pretty cool because it give you an estimation of actual traffic volume. Alexa gives you a percentage of the daily reach of Internet users.
Now Quantcast can also be used to find traffic volume. However, Quantcast gives a very very rough estimate of traffic volume. Because they are so new a lot of their information is incomplete. So I try to not rely 100% on Quantcasts traffic estimations. Instead I like to use Quantcast for demographic research. It’s important to know who visits a website. We need to make sure we can find offers that match the demographic. Just remember… Quantcast is a very rough estimate of traffic volume.
Google I use to find how sites rank for certain keywords. If I was going to advertise on a health related site I would be more happy to advertise on a site that ranked on the 1st or 2nd page for weight loss as opposed to a site that ranks on the 99th page for the same keyword.
Starting my Media Buy.
If you haven’t noticed yet… A lot of this Internet Marketing business is about research. This is one of the most critical steps in selecting a site to use for a Media Buy. Remember, a media buy is buying advertising space on someone elses website. Whether it be a blog, forum, or general information filled website.
The blog post at Convert2Media that talks about finding the right site to advertise on with Alexa has brought in some excellent points. We want to find sites with high traffic so that we know our banner impressions will not be put to waste. At the same time. We need to be careful on the sites that we prospect out to so that we don’t find someone that wants $5000 for a month long banner ad placement.
Jump on over to the Alexa Category pages and find yourself a nice little niche to hit up. Three of the top earners online are Health, Wealth, and Relationships. If you can find something to advertise in one of those three niches you are sure to make some money.
I’ve jumped into the “Health” category. From here I browse for an even more specific section or health related niche. Eventually I’ll be lead to a list of websites that I can begin to research even more.
Alexa is just one way to find websites. You can also search through DMOZ, Google, Yahoo, and even MSN. Just type in a keyword and there you will have a huge list of websites HAHA.
Want to make a Media Buy?
When I first heard the words “Media Buy” I thought it referred to buying TV commercials, Magazine ads, or Radio spots. While in the real world this is true… in the online world a Media Buy just refers to buying an advertising spot on someones website. Websites are like… virtual magazines… so I guess the term “Media Buy” would be correct.
Ruck has made an excellent post a couple of weeks back on the Convert2Media blog titled “Easy Media Buying Using Alexa“. Ruck talks about using Alexa to find websites that you can advertise with. Go read his post if your interested in Media Buying.
When we do a Media Buy we pay an upfront fee for advertising on someones website. This can be a scary thought because we don’t know how the specific advertisement will perform. Because of this, it is important that we do our research as carefully as we can when we want to do a Media Buy.
Over the next couple of weeks I’m going to walk you through making a Media Buy. I’ll also through in other posts for those of you not interested in Media Buying.
Some Do’s and Don’ts
Starting out in this business can be a scary thought Here are some quick tips for you to remember as your start out. And for you experienced marketers… Here are some things you want to make sure you are doing… or not doing…
DO
Invest in a domain name and hosting. You can’t run your offers if you have no place to host them! If this is your first domain name get a general name. Don’t get too specific. Pick something like… VoteToday.com, TakeMyPoll.com, CastYourVote.com. Don’t pick something like… iPhonePolls.com, WinAGiftCard.com. You get my point. Invest in something that you can expand on.
DON’T
Don’t waste your money on get rich quick ebooks. That is not to say that every ebook out there is bad. Some are very good and unique. I wrote an ebook a while back and I know for a fact that it’s one of a kind. However, these ebooks that you can find online about “HOW TO GET RICH ONLINE” are all the same… Don’t waste your money.
DO
Learn all you can about this business. Join forums like the CashTactics Forum. Many online communities can be full of information. Read up and learn all you can. But remember… Don’t get caught up in the information. In other words… Don’t read forums and blogs for hours on end. You will only end up …. in the same spot… That is not making any money. Set a time limit and stick too it.
DON’T
Don’t be afraid… People message me everyday and ask me questions about this business. 99% of the time they struggle because they are afraid to invest the money. Yes this does take money. You are starting a business and unfortunately that does take money. There are certain things that don’t have to take money to start. In fact I made my first $700 online with ZERO investment… But you cannot be afraid to make the jump in putting your money into a campaign.
The Famous Question
It’s been about a week since I last wrote and I do apologize for that. This was also the last week that my wife and I had family in town. We’ve kept pretty busy with six flags, the zoo, several museums, and other various activities. I did however get online several times to check my email and see who else was wandering around online.
This week I was posed this question several times… “What is the best thing I can do to help me make money online?” or “What can I do to make money the quickest?”
My answer is simple. Set a goal. Then break that goal down to several smaller goals. Break those smaller goals down even more until you have an easily obtainable goal.
Goal setting is important. If you don’t know where your going or if you don’t have direction in this business you will waste a lot of time and a lot of money. Also, if you set unobtainable goals you will get easily discouraged. Don’t jump in and say “My goal is to make $1000 as fast as possible.” Most people will start… realize this takes work… and quit. However, if you set a more obtainable goal like $5 a day for 1 week straight. WOW… That’s an obtainable goal. That’s something you can work with. Then you break that down.
What can I do to make $5 a day? I need traffic… What can I do to get traffic? Everyday I will build “x” amount of PPC campaigns, rip “x” amounts of vids, make “x” amount of yahoo answer posts, make “x” amounts of posts in forums… whatever it takes. By breaking down your main goal to smaller goals this job doesn’t seem too difficult.

The content I actually took from another site. I did change up some of the wording. But the images I hijacked…
Anyways. Remember these points for a review style page.
Thats all the points I can think of right now. If I think of more, or if you think of any add them in the posts!
