My field is real estate and we have the same problem. The investor gurus all have 100 different ways to make money in real estate but the guys that are the most successful are the ones that have a core strategy and stick to it.

You sure have made a solid point about what people need to do to have the right focus available. I would say that the focus is lacking in some individuals because of the numerous distractions that are placed in front of them in their environment. It is a task just to remove those in the first place.

“What do you do to stay focused?” The answer unfortunately isn’t one I want to tell you. Why is that? Because then you wouldn’t read the blog anymore HAHA just kidding.

That's funny ...

I've thought about this issue a lot, because I'm a newbie affiliate but actually successful on eBay.

A newbie needs to focus BUT a newbie has no track record to refer to. So there is a constant fear that what they are doing will not work and time and money will be wasted. So they keep buying and reading and doing nothing... the IM loop that hopefully sites like yours can help people snap.

I've seen incredible posts on here and some that my baptist upbringing question... :)

Keep it coming!!!

Well I'm glad to have inspired a post from you, and thanks for sharing your insight. Some of what you have said I already implemented, so for the rest it comes down to discipline. Though not in college, I have a full time job, a house to take care of, three kids and everything else that comes with that. So staying focused often times can be a challenge by itself.

Part of my problem also is spreading myself too thin when it comes to my online ventures. So many unfinished projects that need to be completed, yet I still am looking for that next "golden opportunity". Guess I need to stop looking and start doing.

So with that I will put what you said into action before I continue anything else this weekend. Thanks!

Kris,

These are some incredible tips. I am glad you shared your personal story with focusing on a career online while attending college. This industry really caters toward college students looking for a way to supplement their income while making time to hit the books. Not enough can be said for focusing. As you said, you can't let a few bumps in the road discourage you. Just focus on the task at hand: Internet success. Make a list of goals and tackle one task at a time. Great post!

I defiantly still struggle with time management but have learned to buckle down when I'm trying to get a campaign or site launched. I have a sticky not taped above my monitor that reads, "What have you done today that will make you money?"

Oh ok! I see now. One more quick question to derail you from the topic of this post...

So, after you test and find an offer that converts to a decent degree, you have a nice list of keywords. BUT... you were most likely using a redirect on your ads to the offer itself.

The next step is to build a site around that offer and those keywords, correct?

If you build a site around that offer and those keywords, is there a problem of losing/lowering conversions? It seems like you're putting up an obstacle in the path of a person that goes from keyword-to-offer.

But I guess that's just part of the game?

Sorry, I guess that was like 3 questions. (I'll go to the forum now, I promise!)

No worries man. Andrew hit that right on the dot. You want to test campaigns to see what your traffic likes. Google traffic for one keyword is going to be different than Yahoo traffic for the same keyword. The demographics are different and so you have to figure out what that demographic wants at that time.

Your AM can tell you whats converting... But they can't tell you why. I run campaigns all the time that my AM suggests and most of the time I can't get beans out of it.

That being said. I also try and shoot for campaigns that have a high EPC. I should blog about EPC....

Yea... Rip.. a little off topic but the reason you want to test offers is because even though the affiliate managers can tell you whether or not an offer converts, it may not convert with the type of traffic you are sending or the method you are using. Just about any offer will convert, your job is to test and find the type of traffic/keywords that will convert it.

There is alot of great information in there and plenty of places for you to ask questions.

I have a dumb question: Why would you want to test offers to see if they will convert or not?

Can't you just ask your account manager to see which ones convert and which ones don't? Or do they not have access to that kind of information?

Ok...time for me to get a new theme. Seems I'm finding other affiliates with this theme (and default colors) every week. It's a good theme though, no doubt.
