10 Things You May Or May Not Know About Me

I was just cruising blogs today and it seems that all the blogger’s are on this “things you don’t know about me” frizz. So I will approach to being a little more personable and give you a few things that you may not know about me.

  1. My main hobby is fishing. I live in Kansas, (USA) and it’s truly about the only thing you can do here. I am a huge avid Flatheadcatfishermen. I fish for Channel Cats and Flatheads every spring and fall. Up until this year I fished a lot in the summer as well. I really do not take the heat as well as I used to, and this summer has really been busy for me. Nonetheless here is a nice Flathead I caught earlier this spring. I usually try to go as much as I can in March-May. This is the prespawn time and when it warms up at the first of the year it tends to get them moving around a bit more. I fish probably more than anyone that you might know, it is actually quite ridiculous but so is, working 80-100 hours a week online when I am not out there fishing.
  2. I am a HUGE Halo 1 & 2 fan. Not only am I a fan but I play Halo2 more than I should. It is actually how I usually take my breaks here in the upstairs office. I just turn the chair around and flip on the tube and it’s time to go kill some bad kids. I was actually rated 3rd in the World for Big Team Battle for over a year when Bungie used to have their online leader boards. Since they have taken it down, there really is no incentive for me to play anymore, because let’s face it…it was all about dumbass bragging rights to begin with anyway.
  3. I gained 52 lbs in 50 days. Hard to believe? I have always been 160-175lbs but it seems the metabolism is starting to slow down and the amount of pop I drink has caught up to me. I have now hit a whopping 215 lbs and am trying my ass off to get myself a diet and exercise plan together.
  4. I am a huge webmaster in the anime business. I currently own 12 sites that are populated with (mostly) Asian traffic. I absolutely hate anime and have really never understood what it is all about. I have people that I know personally who have the weirdest obsessions with anime and I have no f’ing clue as to why. All I know is that if you can monetise Asian traffic, you can have multiple automated income sources coming in with VERY little work involved.
  5. I have be together with the same woman for almost nine years, married once and divorced once with her, we currently have 2 sons and a third child on the way. Sound confusing? Yea…I can see how it could be. It all boils down to if you find that right person, don’t overwork yourself or let your pride stand in the way of things.
  6. I hate Google Adsense. I absolutely cannot stand it. Nuff said.
  7. I hate Internet Marketing events and I never want to go. I have been asked countless times why I don’t/won’t go to Internet Marketing Conferences and Seminars. The truth is I really do not want to go and listen to a bunch of people give their views on the industry. I know what I believe in and I don’t care what they believe in. I know what I have done to make my living online and I know what I have to keep doing to stay there. I prefer to work alone on a standalone basis and I have been F#cked over before on Joint Ventures. While not everyone out there is bad, I just not assume to take on the responsibility to weed out the dipshits from the real deals.
  8. I outsource almost all of my site design, content writing and traffic building. I absolutely cannot stand to do any of the “grunt” work. Every now and then I will, but I just assume to keep reading and researching other markets while I have someone else do what I have outlined and planned. It’s just smart business. It allows me to enter other markets at rapid paces. While I may hate seminars and talking to other marketers, I absolutely love talking with people who are just getting started online. What better way to do it than by learning what will need to be done and them getting paid while doing it.
  9. I hate people who sell informational ebooks on how to make money. Plain and simple, I have bought them online before and I used to do it for fun just to see how good they rehashed shit. I now make it a point to get everything I want for free ….. and I do :)
  10. I hate television. I love movies but I absolutely cannot stand watching anything on tv unless its a sports game. I hate commercials as well, but I have made a lot of money online building sites surrounding ideas that I saw on tv.

Well, that’s it for it now. Just a few things on a more personal note about me.

Best,

Ruck

I eat channel cats like it was my last meal on earth. I do not eat Flatheads though. They are more of a bankhugger and cover dwelling type of predator and with that comes a lot of slime and mud. I do not want to tank them for a week just to clean them out.

All the Flatheads are purely catch and release.

Regarding point 6.
In terms of making money, adsense with high paying keywords is a killer. How much you get on a pay per lead campaign? 1-3 $? Why bother send your visitors fill up a form, or do any action when you can much easier convince them to click a high paying ad and you get the same amount of money?

Of course you can get banned at any time without a valid reason and this sucks, but it is still a pretty good revenue source.

I already knew most of that but you and I are on exactly the same page as far as TV and movies. I hate TV but I love movies. I also make it a point to get everything I can for free…

I admire the fact that you seem to have a high pride and yet you still make big bucks. KUDOS!

Sure John,

I just shot you an email.

Can I take a peek too of your anime sites?

Thanks,

Well since everyone is asking to see one, I will share a new that I have just built. This is one that is very basic but runs completely on autopilot.

http://onlineanimemovies.com

The current one I am building now is going to make the ones I already have look like a bunch of sissies. The real kicker is to try and use other video sites bandwidth :)…This is vital because I actually took one site offline as I was hosting the movies and getting destroyed. It would not be so bad, but targetting the Asian and Japanese crowd is not as easy as it seems, especially if you know nothing about the niche.

Hey Ruck,
Thanks for the blogroll add.

I’m a pretty big anime fan. If you stick stuff from the aff prog over at sideshow collectibles, you can monetize pretty well on your niche sites.

Amen on the adsense!

I sell ‘make money on the internet books’….does that mean you hate me?

Nice for you to give away your expertise, and two books is quite a bit to give away…

Segregating it out into multiple posts will give you more link love and traffic.

cheers!

No Way Andrew Wee just commented here. :)

I only hate the ebooks that are shit. Since I read you religiously I highly doubt yours are :)…

And your right about splitting that info up, I just took a notion one night to get all of it there in a hurry!

Thanks for the tip on the slideshow collectibles. It’s a niche that I am beginning to love and am a huge fan just trying to monetise the traffic is my hard part so far.

Thanks for stopping by thought man!

Catfish eh?? You should come up to the great lakes. I’ll show you how to catch some real fish.

how are you monetizing that anime site besides adsense? I thought you hated adsense?

I love this blog.

And now I might respond to the next mention of “fishing” with something other than “eeewwwwww!” Although I consider well-prepared catfish to be a bonafide delicacy.

Really appreciate your information.

Thanks very much,
Sine

I do hate it, and was actually gearing up to write about how I had to resort to using it. I have found that a lot of my visitors are from Asia and Japan and I am having a tought time monetising.

Adsense is doing ok, but Andrew let me know of how I could monetise a little bit better. At least I hope.

But right now I don’t worry about. That is a new site using a different script, a couple of my big sites don’t have any ads on them at all :)…

Ah, I see…

I remember you saying in the RJ Forum that it doesn’t make any sense to drive your visitors to a competitor for just pennies. I took it to heart because it seemed to make a lot of sense.

I have adsense on my blog, and I just checked it today after reading this post and I’ve been making money not even realizing it. Thing is I would much rather have these visitors buying something from my main site (much more profitable).. I’m still with you on that. Unless of course you find that the adsense on your anime site is wildly profitable.. let us know! ;)

If you have no ads then how are you makin moolah?? I just discovered this site a few days ago and I’m trying to learn the tricks of the trade.

Ruck

I have 10 out of 12 sites that have Adsense on them. My main two (babies) do not have Ads at all on them.

It is not a very profitable model. I have 5 sites that average around $8-$12 a day, which is not bad I guess. The others are pretty new, (less than 2 months old) but are catching on quickly.

This last site I built was really a test because I was trying a new automatic Youtube Script. Now that I know everything works fine, I can get Anime Specific. If I find that I can get ads that are very targetted to each Anime Site then I might leave it.

I have gotten some leads from Elite Mate in Copeac for the Asian offer. I think I done maybe $50 so far with in it in the last month. That is not to bad either.

My main focus is that I know it’s a huge niche with very large sub niches. I am trying to learn everything I can so that I can make the sites better for the viewers. But thinking like a damn marketer I keep worrying about how to monetise it. I know I can get visitors so the monetisation thing always sticks out in my mind.

As for being wildly profitable NO. But, with the amount of traffic I get I think most people would be really happy with $8-$12 a day earnings from each site. I really do not know what to do yet as I am still learning the niche and trying to cater ads on the users. Call it, working on a whim :)…

In other news. I hate Adsense and I hate having to resort to using it. If I built sites just to build sites then I be happy as a hummingbird. Unfortunately I am in this business to make money and shitloads of it, so monetising is a have too:)

For the two baby sites I have that are out of WordPress, I am not making a cent from them. They are both at about 800+ uniques a day.

I ain’t getting a dime from them, as these were the first two I built. The last one I showed is the one I just recently made on a new much simpler script. It only offers Anime videos from Youtube.

My baby sites are much more complex and those will not be shown :)

They are not automatically updated either. I download these anime FULL LENGTH movies from umm……..(whispers torrent sites) and convert the files so that I can embed them on my site.

Now I am giving too much away here :)

Ok, I kinda get what your saying but what I’m not gettin is how your servin up all these sites. Are these all websites you design yourself or are you just using some templates? Are these silly questions I’m asking?

I’ll never understand what the appeal is with hentai. Who wants to see some cartoons fucking.

September 6, 2007
Ruck

Yea I am using templates for my Youtube Scripts but using WordPress to build my other sites.

September 6, 2007

Ruck,
Have you tried polling your audience?

If you’re downloading anime and ripping it, why not put it on metacafe or revver and paid on the CPM page view model?

You can also scrape wiki or the anime wikis and make fan books and market these ebooks at $5 or $10 a pop…

I hate adsense, and the type of ratio I’m seeing is that you can prob make $100 off affiliate or product sales for every $1 that you would make off adsense instead.

also take a look at geeks.com, you could probably market some speciality stuff, and the japan traffic would have bunches of cash to burn…

why not do a recon of ebay, see what people are buying and selling in the anime niche, if needed, source out some drop shippers and market it on your anime sites, rather than on ebay (you’d earn a buttload more too).

sheeit….i could see making an easy $5-10k a month off each anime site you own. don’t leave cash on the table, dude!

If you want to talk more, you can either hit me up on wickedfire, or via the contact form on my blog.

cheers!
