Profitable PPC headline words!
Hey guys and gals. Today is a good day… Or night… Tonight is a good night. It’s 10:44 pm and I’m feeling pretty wide awake.
I wanted to take some time to write to you about headlines. The other day I spoke at the Dallas Affiliate Marketers Association (DAMA). While I was there I met the owner of PPCFool.com. It’s a blog I’ve seen around while searching for information to add in my brain. During a break between my SEO clients this afternoon I was browsing blogs and I came upon a post that David made titled “Increase CTR with Shock Advertising“. So I thought… Okay. I like that… I should give my readers some of this as well.
David’s post talks about using words like
- Exposed
- Scam
- Naughty
- Sneaky
- Secrets
- Wicked
- Yucky
- Disgusting
- Gruesome
- Fatal
- Jealous
- Traitor
- etc,
in your advertising… These words work great! Sometimes you just need to get traffic into your site. And these words will definitely do the trick. Saying something like that image I have up there and you’ll get crazy clicks! Shock factor is huge in the content network!
There is also a set of keywords… a huge list actually… That invoke a different feeling, but clicks none the less.
- secrets
- proven
- guaranteed
- winning
- breakthrough
- revealing
- suprising
- confidential
- remarkable
- dazzling
- sensational
- confidential
- immediately
- endorsed
- quality
- benefit from
- profit from
- potent
- mind-blowing
- alluring
- limited
- quickly
- valuable
- discount
- reduced
- lowest
- refundable
- revealing
- unlimited
- authentic
- energizing
- floodgates (of money, health, wealth, etc)
- etc, etc, etc
Oh man. That list can go on and on and on. There are TONS of words that you can use to help build an enticing ad. The key is to use words that people want to associate with themselves. Or words that will peak curiosity. You only have 95 characters in adwords to use. Use them wisely with these words and you’ll increase your click through rate in no time at all!

Nice one Kris … great to put a face to the blog. You’re right about the content network. You need to try to catch them off guard. In search they are already looking, but in the content network most people dont even see the ads.
Use these words at your own risk :)
You gave a good talk by the way.

Thanks for sharing the PPCfool.com link. I’ve visited there too and I found 7 very useful Firefox plugins for affiliates.
Keep up the good work.

Shock headlines and marketing works in jaded markets like bizop, internet marketing, weight loss.
If it’s a new market to copywriting/info marketing, the conventional approach seems to work better. Look at how straightforward the shamwow and ‘As Seen On TV” offers are like.
Maybe it’s because the audience isn’t a bunch of rocket scientists.
