Update on my Media Buy

Here is a quick update for my media buy.

I have 7 replies.   WOOT FOR ME!

So, here is the scoop.  2 of the websites I’m not going to advertise on.  They have way to much traffic and came back with an immediate $500 a month fee. I’m not saying too much traffic is bad.  I’m just saying that websites with high traffic can and almost always will command big bucks.

The other 5 sites I’ve been replying to back and forth a little bit.  One of them even accepted the offer of a 5 day test.  The enthusiasm that some of these website owners have is great! I hate to say it but… You can play on their excitement. Saythings like “yeah if this works out we can make a deal for several months!”.  They eat this stuff up!

That one site that is allowing the 5 day trial.  I told him if all goes well I’ll give him $35 for 30 days.  He seems happy… So I’m happy as well.  We still have some things to work out.  But this should be rolling by the end of the week at the latest.  Communication is a little slow.

2 of the 4 sites have flat out said they charge $100 a month.  Now, for one of the sites I can understand with the amount of traffic it is getting.  The other site however made me laugh… The traffic was pretty bad and I know the guy isn’t making that about from his poor adsense placement. So I replied to him with a counter offer of $60 for 30 days.

Lastly… 2 sites are in price negotiation.  Neither has a clue about what to charge so I am offering $40.  One has accepted and if all goes well a banner will be placed by Monday.  The other has yet to reply.

Anyways, this was just a little update.  Media buying is about negotiation.  If you can’t negotiate, you better learn.  You make an offer, they counter offer, you counter the counter and then they accept or counter your counter counter… ummm something like that.  You get the point.

Hey Kris, nice case study. Me likes. It would be nice to see the traffic numbers corresponding to the sites you’re making deals with also. Can you include them next time so we can get an idea of the traffic/pricing ratio?

That’s great info thanks. Well great negotiation skills are very essential in marketing.

This is very interesting, whenever I come across an ad quote when seeking advertising, it never really occurred to me to try to negotiate a lower fee, I’ll normally either pay the stated fee or move on so that is something I will definitely put to use.

I’d advise anyone to test PPC waters before jumping into media buys. Ruck is a smart guy and knows his stuff.

Average affiliates just don’t have the experience that seasoned PPC marketers have. It can be a hit or miss. Very profitable or utter failure.

Yeah thats a good point skywatcher. You can blow a lot of money with media buying if you don’t do it right. Get your hands dirty with PPC before jumping into media buying!

Media Buys can be very profitable but to attain profitable results you are going to have to BLOW through and I mean SPEND ALOT of money. Media Buying is really a hit or miss topic and to do well in it your are going to need alot of capital… Some sites although they may look targetted will get crap conversions, while others that look like crap will actually have a decent demographic…
Once again though, they key is TRACKING.
Look back at Kris’s old post on the importance of tracking and you should learn a few things. You might go through 20 different sites before finding one profitable one, that one proftiable one though should and will quickly make up for the hundreds if not thousands of lost dollars.

My lil tidbit for you Kris…
I know your a true BHer at heart :-) We all are!

@kris , what kinda tracking software are you using to measure the amount of referred traffic?

Does it tie into conversion tracking too?
