Sorry for the delay… A word on SEO
Sorry it has taken me a bit to get on here. I have a client that is having some major SEO issues. If you didn’t notice. Google went around a few days back and started hitting people hard. So I’ve been really working hard to help this client get his rankings back in the search engines.
I promise I haven’t forgotten about the landing page I said I would show you. I’ll get it up tomorrow evening. (It’s 11:00 pm right now).
Working with this client of mine really made me think about some SEO factors that I know about… But have been slacking on. When you are trying to optimize your site for a specific keyword you have to realize that there are other people online that are trying to do the same thing for their website… for the EXACT same keyword/phrase. If you leave a website site without working on it… You will have problems.
Take my client for example. He is using me for SEO Consultation. In other words I find out why his competition is ranked higher than him. I then let him know what I feel is the best action for him to take in order to dominate the keyword/phrase. My client did an excellent job of implementing my strategy for his website. However, that is all he did. He took my suggestions and then left the site alone. He did the bare minimum. So when time came, his competition had done more work. They found more link partners, they had a higher keyword to content ratio… They were just overall better than him.
This isn’t an uncommon thing. Often times we get #1 in Google for some keyword and we think all is well. We start to think “GREAT, I can move onto the next keyword” and we forget about all of the work we put into that first keyword. This is TERRIBLE!!!! Why work hard and then let it goto waste as your competition works even harder to out do you.
When you finally reach your goal in SEO don’t just stop. Continue improving. Continue finding links back. Continue adding content. Don’t just be a step ahead of your competition, be a mile ahead. That way when the great Google comes around… You have no worries. Your website is still number one because you are so much better then the competition.
Sorry thats my little rant for today. I promise to be back on track tomorrow.

I think this is the problem. Set it and forget it just does not work… It’s always a continuing process. Thanks for all the tips and I’ll be patiently awaiting the landing page.

I’m a little bit worried about this problem at my own company. I’ve been working on an SEO project for my company for the last few months, but they’re moving me off the project at the end of August. I’m not sure that my boss is going to put in the time to make sure that we maintain our backlinks and keep ourselves on that first serp. Oh well; I just hope they don’t bring me back to clean up the mess!

Well said. Its however great for SEO companies. As the Internet and the knowledge of Internet grows so does the competition and more needs to be done to complete the same objective. Its a vicious circle, just hope the clients understand all of this.

Great advice. It’s easy to lull yourself into a false sense of security and think you’ll never fall from your awesome position. I guess it’s wishful thinking at its worst.

It is not due to the external forces due to which we fall but due to internal incompetence - so perfect for SEO.
