Craigslist Marketing And How To Do It

After the release of Mark McDonald’s Craigslist Profits (which is now closed) I really began to receive a lot of PM’s from the Warrior Forum and just general emails from other forums I frequent. Unfortunately, I do not know if he sold that site or not, or exactly what the deal is. I had one hell of a testimonial on his sales page using that product. I remember buying it and joining Mark’s forum very vividly. I should probably tell you now that the guy was either 14 or 16 years old at the time that I bought it. An awesome guy, and I wish I had started at that age. Anyway, the product was basically a set of MP3 Audios that I listened to.

It contained tips and tricks on how to market on Craigslist. The most important thing about marketing on Craigslist is your ad copy. I was blown away at Mark’s examples of his ad copy. It was really mind blowing.  I decided to give it a try. The next morning I had email accounts setup and my ad copy written for them. I was marketing a link building campaign and a telephone SEO Consultation. Needless to say, I got more clients than I could handle. I did do it for over a month, but I got so overwhelmed after my first week of posting ads, that I shut it down completely. All in all, I was able to gross over $14,000 in about 12 days. Not too bad if I do say so myself.

 Now that I have covered that I am very familiar with Craigslist and I have had some really good success, let me give out a few pointers when using.

•  For god’s sake do not spam it. It is likely with the measures that they have taken now, you will not get away with it for very long anyways. Why on earth would you abuse a resource that could spill so much money in your pockets. Thinking about it makes me want to hurt something. They have bots in place to sort through ad text, (which I will get to in a second), but they also track IP. They are quick to destroy you, if you decide to abuse their site.

•   Some dude over in the Warrior Forum already covered this, but I should add my own $0.02 as well. I used to write really long ads, and concentrate hard on my copy. I basically had to though, as I needed to impress the clients and have them wanting my services before they even called me. That was a huge trick I used. My main goal was that I instilled fear and a sense of urgency in them to acquire my services fast or I would not allow them later. This is basically how I made that $14,000 in less than 2 weeks. Nothing hard, just a simple psychological tactic.

• These days though, I have been using images. First off, the bots over there cannot read them. There is no text to sort and see if it has been duplicated. A+ for us right? So linking your images wherever you want the surfer (client) to go is a very bold and smart move. One you should consider very seriously, given the circumstances that Craigslist is a goldmine.

•  Your ad titles will need to vary. There is no joking around here. The bots are real slick on picking up on duplicate copy so be sure to vary them up a bit. This will help you anyway. If you are tracking titles in some way, you will be able to see which ones are converting into clicks from the main city pages for you.

•  Consistency is key. Your going to have to develop some sort of time table for posting. I personally have 20 accounts on there. 5-10 is a good number, but I am a bit of an extremist :). Yes, you absolutely should setup accounts on their. This will save you a ton of time. Nothing more annoying than posting ads and having to go verify your email each time. You should also remember on what days you posted your ads. The ads will drop every 7 days, and your allowed to post new ones. Never delete the old ads.
