Ripping YouTube vids for CPA offers

You heard that right.

I’m going to tell you how I do it. You can do this any way you like. In fact, Ruck has posted some very helpful information in regards to youtube video ripping in the past. He has even posted a video on youtube in November of 2007 on this subject. Check it out.

After I find a niche to promote I build my landing page. For example sake I’m going to talk about a “Political Poll”. Some example question would be:

  • Is the US ready for a Female President?
  • Is Hillary worthy enough to be the first Female President?
  • Who would make a better President, Obama or Hillary?
  • Will Hillary officially give up the race?

Those are just some example for polls that we can use. The next step is to gather a domain name. Now, I wouldn’t necessarily gather a domain name in regards to a specific candidate. Instead I would buy up a general political related domain name.

Drop your poll onto the domain. If you want to get your split testing done quick create 4 versions of your poll with different colors. Poll Factory makes this a simple thing to do. You can also create versions of your poll will different patter (the words you have on the page), different images, different RSS feeds/content, etc. Rotate about 5 of those polls through the iFramer/Rotator so that you can get a good split testing in.

Now, goto YouTube, click on the video tab. This is essentially the hub of the website. Here you can access all videos that YouTube has. You can even get them sorted for you by

  • Featured
  • Rising Videos
  • Most Discussed
  • Most Recent
  • Most Responded
  • Most Viewed
  • Top Favorites
  • Top Rated

This is cool because we can select the category we want and then find the video that is most viewed… top favorite, most discussed… Whatever we want to find basically. For the example I’m using in this post I would navigate to the “News and Politics” category on the left side. Once you select your category you can then browse to the ranking that you want. In other words to the top rated news and politics video. Now these are the videos for Today. So these would be the top rated videos for Today. I like to select the “Rising Videos” category. These are videos that are climbing the YouTube ladder.

Select whatever video you want, then jump over to Vixy.net . Thats a nice little site that I found for taking YouTube videos from YouTube and putting them right to your desk top. Their server is sometimes busy… But if you wait 30 seconds it should be good to go. Now, because I have a Mac I select MP4 or MOV from the drop down menu. But because most of you have Windows, you will most likely want to select AVI. It should be automatically selected for you.

Now, Ruck mentioned in a post about YouTube a program called “Video Watermark Factory“. That’s the program Ruck suggests and uses for watermarking your videos. But because I have a Mac I just open up iMovie and add a watermark.

Don’t just add the watermark in the beginning or at the end. Your watermark should be throughout the video. Some of the videos that I have show my watermark 100% of the time, others show my watermark at key moments (close up shots, funny moments, etc.)

Your watermark can say “YourDomain.com”, “http://www.YourDomain.com” or whatever you want it to. I prefer the clean look so I just use “YourDomain.com”. Don’t forget to add your domain name in the description of the video. This is key because people will be able to easily click your link and get taken right to your site. I have noticed that my CTR on video websites is far higher than with PPC. Just make sure you get an enticing video that engages the viewer. A “rising” video if you will!

Other sites were you can upload your video include:

Ahhh theres just a whole list of them. What video sites do you use?

I employ a similar strategy. It takes quite a bit of work because videos can be a hit or miss. I have some videos with 200K views and other with only 200. Anyway It is very time consuming to get lots of videos online but once that part is done th traffic is pretty steady. I have been getting 300 uniques a day for the past month doing this.

And I forgot to mention, If you deside to do this I strongly recommend checking out http://www.tubemogul.com/. It is a free service that allows you to upload your videos to over 10 different video sites at once. This will save you lots of time! They also track your views across each site which is handy as well as you do not need to loginto 10 different sites to gather your statistic.

What do you do after watermarking? And what about copyrights? Or I misunderstood something?

RomanSvet - After you watermark them you re-upload them under your own account (ya.. spammy).

Excuse my newbieness, but can you take someone else’s video, put your domain on it (is that what watermarking is?) and then re-upload the video? Nothing illegal here? I can handle “spammy”, but nothing illegal?

I have the same question as RomanSvet and Nate: What about copyright of others when you are watermarking their videos? Could there be some legal issues because of this?

I hope Chris and others also would be shedding light on this issue.

I don’t know the legalities behind this but I have been doing this for a LONG time. Over a year. I have uploaded HUNDREDS of youtube vids and haven’t had any issues. In fact if you watch youtube you will see several of the same videos with different watermarks.

    Pete, thanks for your response.

Could you please give me an example of same two videos with different watermarks if that isn’t too much of a bother? It would help me understand how watermarking works.

    It’s copyright infrigment? Yes.
    Is it illegal? Yes.
Does anyone care? Maybe the copyright holders.
Can you get caught? I would be suprised if you got caught. Hundreds of thousands of people break the copyright laws every single day. They are not going after individuals because there is no point. The worst thing that could happen is that they will remove your video from youtube.

Have you ever read anyones blog before? Most of the stuff you find online is rehashed. This information is different from what ruck posted in the past. I take it you didn’t read the article.

Read the post before you make accusations.

    @Neil-
    Thanks for that site!

    @RomanSvet, Nate, Kara-
Johns right. It is something I’ve been doing for a while and I haven’t had any problems with it. I try not to grab videos that are already watermarked. I just like to find the ones that aren’t marked. But like Pete said, there are duplicate videos on youtube.

    @Kara-
A watermark is your logo or url embedded into the video. That video that is at the top of this post has a watermark of “youtube” in the bottom right corner.

Cash, If you actually took the time to read this blog, you would actually see where Kris stated that this information was already posted.

Last time i check the work rehashed means something that is being discussed again with little or no alteration. I don’t know how long you been on Cashtactics but this is alot different from Ruck’s post.

Anyways, Great Post. Keep up the good work.

Don’t post if you don’t have anything constructive to say - heck yours isnt even constructive criticism, its jus plain ol’ jealousy. Ruck’s format was a video, and not everyone has the time to watch em. A blog post about it is much easier to skim through.

Props for the post - its pretty detailed. Its just the approach I was deciding to take nowadays. Just got Watermark Master yesterday :)

here are some other site you can upload your video to:

    kewego.com
    revver.com
    video.google.com
    video.yahoo.com
    sclipo.com
    sumo.tv
    blip.tv
    facebook.com
    myspace.com
    vimeo.com
    veoh.com
    vsocial.com
    putfile.com

trafficgeyser.com is a reall great video submission service. It’s not free but it offers a lot of features. And if you use some keyword phrases as your video title you may even get listet on Google first page for those keywords.

Oh I nearly forgot. While you are searching for raising videos you may post a video response on them. This brings in some extra traffic.

Kris has provided examples in theory, not handed you the crowbar to break into a bank.

There are lots of videos that are perfectly legitimate fair game to reupload with your own watermark.

Take for example, stuff that people have reupped that isn’t theirs anyway? There’s no law against stealing stolen material anyway, but youtube is good to take down anything that the copyright owner requests to be removed.

If it’s on youtube, people want it to be seen. Whoever uploads it is a lot less important to the owner than the fact that the owner is getting free publicity, and you’re piggy-backing on that for a profit.

    Everybody wins.

Do you know if tubemogul.com modifies your video or video description when uploading to all those sites? I’d expect a free service like that to come with the cost of having ‘tubemogul.com’ appear as a watermark or a link in the description or something. Is this the case?
