Article Directory Submission (Free Traffic)
Most of us do not enjoy writing Articles. But understanding that although it is not the “best” source of traffic, it is a “Free” source that with a little time and effort can generate traffic, and ultimately revenue.
When writing your articles the common misconception is that they must be very informative and based solely on your specific niche. While the majority of articles you submit should follow protocol, don’t be afraid to throw in some fun and interesting articles that will grab the readers attention.
Also, if you have dipped your hand in this type of traffic generation method before, you know that MANY of the articles out there are low-quality dime-a-dozen type articles. It may seem like the more the better, but that does not mean you can not write rich, interesting, and exciting articles. If you want people to read them and come to your site. Take some time and write well.
Now, there are several places where you can post your articles, but I personally recommend article directories above all else. Article directories are places where you can get your articles published quickly and easily for free.
You can submit your articles to dozens of different directories, but here is a list of directories I think you should start at:
www.Ezinearticles.com
www.GoArticles.com
www.Articlecity.com
www.Isnare.com
www.Amazines.com
www.ApprovedArticles.com
www.SubmitYourArticle.com
www.Articlesbase.com
These directories will allow you to publish your articles and post a one-way link back to your website. Before creating your link, think about what page you want to send traffic to. For example, do you want to send your readers directly to your sales page? Or do you want to send them to a page with more information to warm them up a bit. This all depends on your product, and should be split tested to see what converts the best.
So there you have it. Just a simple breakdown of Article submissions. With some intellect and moderate writing skills this can and will generate free traffic to your website.
Kris – One of the great things about article submissions is that people will often scrap your article to fill in content on their website. This will place a link on their site back to yours… 1 article submitted to an article directory can turn into a handful of inbound links to your site!

BE careful what link you sue. Ezinearticles has a bunch of restrictions over what pages you can link to. Sales pages. Ecommerce pages and pages with a lot of ads will be rejected. It’s best to link to a blog poster or article on your site, or use a directory that doesn’t restrict you link types.
Also I have had articles re posted on other sites but they leave out the author credit and my link. It’s against the TOS but they do it anyways. Set up a Google alert for your article title and you can see who is stealing your articles.
It’s still a good traffic source, just be aware of the downfalls.
I also believe article directory is one of the best way to get traffics. but please bare in mind that you have to do it correctly because some of the article directories have their own rules and regulation. If you don’t follow it then you’ll article will be deleted or not published
I’m a seo analyst and after read your post, i’m fully agree with your details. All the directories are top rank and its wonderful way to get backing to such type of directories..
Always on the look out for getting links and traffic back to my websites, so thank you for the heads up with these submission directories – I knew some of them but not all, so will give the others a go.
You really need to have a strategy in place in order for article marketing to work well for you. Too many would-be article marketers seem to be afraid or too lazy to experiment w/what works for their niche and the keywords they’re targeting.
You are right about that. i used to use articlesender.com but it seems that site has fallen by the wayside. I didn’t go beyond that but you have supplied some good links to check into. Thanks!
I can definitely agree to that. It is a valid method of getting more exposure and traffic. I prefer Ezinearticles.com because they are very thorough and they do not allow crappy articles.
Its one of the most important ways of building backlinks and improving your page rank. Best of all theyre one way links just like directory submission.
Good list to start out with. In terms of the amount of views and traffic I personally see from article marketing, Goarticles, Ezinearticles and Articlesbase are by far the best directories to submit to. So, if you wanna be lazy about the submissions, my recommendation is to go with those three.
Just beware of duplicate content issues. Rather craft unique articles that are not replicated on your website for submission to article directories, otherwise you’ll get duplicate content penalties for all you hard work….
Net Age you should know better than to spread bs about duplicate content penalties. It is only natural for the web to have many copies of the same basic content. Google does not automatically penalize or block all those copies.
By the way, article submissions are not as effective a strategy as it once was. The article directories have all become quite diluted with lousy articles. If you have decent articles though, you’re bound to get some traffic and backlinks. A good article can get republished many times resulting in more and more backlinks & traffic.
Im using some article directories for traffic. But because of my english my articles are so bad for grammer. So all articles that I wrote are cleaning by owner.
Nice list of articles directories, some of them I’ve never even used before but will give them a try. You are totally right, this is a great way to get some FREE traffic and backlinks.
Article marketing has been the backbone of many of my affiliate marketing campaigns, and articles that I wrote over a year ago still bring in revenue on a monthly basis.
Since I have started consulting for offline businesses I often incorporate article marketing into my proposals. It is a great way to drive free traffic to any website!
i don’t get any visitors from my articles. what’s wrong with my articles?
good free article list, very usefull thanks.
For the people who said they had poor results with article submissions or they had poor English, look into outsourcing. You can pay people quite low rates to write articles. Distributed effectively, those articles produce both traffic and backlinks.
I agree with you that article submission is a good way of getting traffic and also a reasonable means of getting links as well. But we need to be selective of sites where we post the articles and also some changes in article content is also needed to make it unique content. Good writing
I use this method for my blogs and it is really useful.
Well I have a big problem regarding article submission because I submit one article per week on these directories as well as some other also but since this I am not getting any kind og traffic to my site. Can you please suggest some way around.
I agree that articles can be a great source of free traffic. And I doubly agree that just because you do need quite a bit of content means that it should be shoddy.
People aren’t fooled. Write interesting content that grabs interest and you’ll be rewarded with a visitor who’s much more likely to buy or give you an email opt-in.
Hi Randy,
Thanks for some of the suggestions about the directories.
I was wondering what your thoughts were about ehow.com?
I just started blogging about 4 weeks ago but already am seeing about 250-300 visitors a day. Is that decent? I am still in beta and have not launch my marketing yet. The visitors are apparently from searches and word of mouth because I see a lot of direct links, email and twitter sources.
good list, very usefull thank you.
Great tips.. I have started article marketing and with a few tools and outsourcing the articles.. it has been a nice way to get traffic for a small amount of effort.
Thanks for the tip. I regularly submit articles, around 5-10 articles per week. It may not give me results immediately, but it’s a sure-fire way to get a steady flow of traffic in the future, just be patient and consistent when submitting articles. Also, make sure to provide quality article. One tip though, write short, informative, 400-600 word article instead of long, 800-1500 word article. Why? You want your readers to click on your link in the resource box, let your article be an appetizer, don’t provide all in your article, provide them all the info when they clicked on the link and subscribed to your mailing list. you don’t want to bore your readers reading 800-1500 word article, so just “keep it simple and sweet”.
Thanks.
Gary David
There is an up-to-date list here. I always refer to it everytime.
http://www.vretoolbar.com/articles/directories.php
I tried all of them, thank you for your effort.
Is there any niche seriously available OTHER than teaching about internet marketing? NONE of the so called gurus ever disclose money making niches. They are all peddling how to get rich on the net!
Come on people, get real, show us where the money is.
Randy I have a few questions from your guest post here on Cash Tactics. Do you think it would be worth it to promote the articles you submit to the directories? That way the power of the backlinks that you get from article directories are more powerful? Randy, if so, do you have any recommendations on what would be some of the better techniques to do that.
Thank you!
Nice tips. But writing a good article needs a lot of time and practice to master. Probably should start practicing now.
I think article marketing can be very good, but I don’t think submitting an article to tons of article directories will help. Better post your article on a single good site instead of duplicating it all over the internet and decrease it’s value. At least this is what I think.
I used to hate writing articles so much I paid someone on elance to do it for me, but I am beginning to enjoy the creative process a little more now. I agree that using isnare to blast the articles around to thousand of other article submission sites is a great idea, and is getting me many extra visitors who otherwise would not have seen any of the free stuff on my website.
Good post!
I agree that articles can be a great source of free traffic. I will try each of them.
Good tips. Very useful for link building process regarding SEO for any site. Do post more like the same.
i really really agree for this article, and also internet marketing is also a very nice too, anyway thanks for this nice tips.
I think articles are a great way of showing potential clients that you are knowledgeable in your field which helps with relationship building.
It’s smart to limit your articles to the more professional sites rather then spewing them all over the internet.
Your on point with this post. Articles are a pain, but the article submission sites help a lot.
Thank u man. But I have tried all of them. My articles are not written by a good english so not accepted.
I am only aware with Ezine and Goarticle but Thank you for providing article directories with good PR.
All time Im writting article for websites like digg. And I have really good quality users.
I agreed with what you have said i.e submission to article directories is a great way to get some backlinks to your site. However, writing articles, (you really have to write lots of them) in order to have the backlinks may not be very appealing to many especially those that do not like to write at all.
I use this tactics. Thank u man. Cool information
@Breville: that’s where outsourcing or even hiring a full time content writer comes in. If you really want to produce a lot of content, it would be a big challenge to create that all yourself.
I think Ezinearticles is the best bet to get free targeted traffic. I have not tried any other directories. Do you guys think that other directories are as good as ezine?
Thank you.
Stefano latest blog…Increase Traffic Now
Articlebase is alright, but Ezine has put me on the top page of google for several keywords.
Any advice on the use of article spinners in conjunction with the article submissions?
Ezinearticles is the best, but with some of their recent restrictions, it is no longer practical for some people. I find there are a lot of other aritcle directories that help, but some people recommend spinning or rewriting the content when submitting to multiple directories. Personally I have not done any testing to find the optimal number of article directories to use and whether rewriting really made much difference.
thanks for the sharing, nice article.
Should I concentrate on any specific Keyword? I think Yes. Because, It will Help to drive the related traffic.
Very usefull methods and tactics, thnak you.
I do agree also about article writing and article directory submission as a great way to get traffic. But to get the most from it keyword research is of some importance in this. I have tried article submission services in the past, but always manually submit to EzineArticles.
its a good method to get links but its not fun anymore with people stealing your content and ignoring your reference links.
This blog is a very valueable source of advices and informations, which I use on my sites. Thanks a lot for this free tips :)
Randy – would you suggest using an auto-article submitter? I’ve seen ads for various products and I wonder if any of them work the way they say they do.

Article marketing is a good way to promote your site, thanks for the list of resources.
Yes there are some effective automated software programs and website services that will submit your articles for you. Do keep in mind that when you submit an article to hundreds of websites, the benefits per submission decrease with the more sites you submit to. This is why it is also a good idea to spin or rewrite articles before submitting to other sites.
Article writing is a great way to get traffic and also a great way to get backlinks. Thanks for sharing these directories.
I always hear alot of praise, mainly positive about article marketing as a way to gain traffic and backlinks, It’s something I’ve yet to really dive into it, but it’s something I think I need to really start doing as I really liked what you said about people scraping your articles, and likely providing a link to you, that’s something I had not really heard being said before.
Till then,
Jean
@Jean: yes you should definitely get into article marketing. The thing I like most about article marketing is how it gradually builds up a lot of links over time. It takes each directory a certain amount of time for articles to get approved & published. Also once they are published in the directories other sites use these articles for content. With any luck they include the supplied resource box links.
@Laptop, Thanks for the extra encouragement, I think I’ll hit up the library to get some content idea :)
Till then,
Jean
Woow.. Good list.
Thanks for sharing..
hi! i appreciate your post.
thank you so much..
Thanks for the list of websites. Will definitely try this in the succeeding days.
Your on point with this post. Articles are a pain, but the article submission sites help a lot.
I you don’t like writing yourself, I can recommend Textbroker.com. They don’t have the lowest price around, but it very easy to find great writers, that can deliver articles within a few hours.
I recommend the 4-star quality setting, as 90% of all the articles I had written for me, with that setting, have required editing or rewriting.
I still looking for a good submission service, that sends out to the GOOD directories, like the ones on this list. (Have tried Magic Article Submitter, but it only sends out to low-quality directories)
In your list, I use http://www.Ezinearticles.com, http://www.GoArticles.com, http://www.Articlesbase.com.
My favorite is http://www.Articlesbase.com, because the time of my article being accepted is very short, most of time, I just wait a few hours (say, 2 or 3 hours, never more than 12 hours or one day), then my article is accepted.
Thanks for the list of websites. Will definitely try this in the succeeding days.
I also believe article directory is one of the best way to get traffics. ;))
i don’t get any visitors from my articles. what’s wrong with my articles???
That’s a great list. ;)
I feel articles still play an important role in building links to your site and they are a very good source of traffic,
This same article can also be bookmarked and if your contetn is really good you can make it to page 1 of digg or other bookmarking sites
It’s obviously a tested method but I do find it boring. Furthermore, each site has varying submission guidelines, and I can’t imagine getting too busy with article submissions so I can create a fan base or acquire followers. It’s jut a little long drawn when one has to commit to too many article directory submissions.
@Nabanita: that may be the case if you are doing all the work yourself. Really though, it is the ideal task to outsource. You can pay one person to do your writing and another person to handle submissions. There is also plenty of software that speeds up the whole process.
Thanks for the list of websites. Will definitely try this in the succeeding days. Your perspective is very excellent. Thanks for put on view this valuable information. I have the benefit of stay.
i read this article….nice article….I feel articles still play an important role in building links to your site and they are a very good source of traffic,
thanks for sharing….
That’s true. Directory article submission is one way of how to market your product into different sites.
Writing good articles and submitting them to the directories that some have suggested is good. Don’t forget to keyword optimise though, ideally around 1 or 2 phrases maximum, and definitely have the keyword term as early in the title as you can. Also make sure the anchor text linking to your site or blog in the resource box contains your keyword term exactly.
Finally, I’d always ‘close’ for the click in your resource box, and get them to at least read it by not making your article finish the subject entirely, but lead on naturally to the resource box.
Very much agreed on the point about making sure you send the reader to the right page on your website! Often times I will read a squidoo lens or ezine article and the writer will say, for more information about “How to build links” visit abc.com. Instead of taking them to the exact page on the site which may be: abc.com/link building
First time on your blog, I love this LEAVE A COMMENT setup you have. Very nice.
you have write a nice blog. There may be little doubt that article submission as a way to extend site visitors and improve search engine ranking shouldn’t be a fad. There may be debate about whether or not or not Google will continue to modify its rating algorithm to lower the worth of the article backlinks. But for now, submitting articles to a free article listing stays a superb strategy to (1) brand your self and your web site, (2) enhance the number of one-means backlinks to your site and (three) acquire focused human guests to your site.
Free article directory submission is the best way to get healthy backlink. This is a really excellent read for me. Must admit that you are one of the best blogger I ever saw. Thanks for posting this useful article.
I agree with you that article.. very useful

I can definitely agree to that. It is a valid method of getting more exposure and traffic. they are very thorough and they do not allow crappy articles.
Thats a good list of article sites.
Given the time consuming nature of writing articles, does anyone here have any opions on article spinning so you dont send duplicate ones to different directories?
Regards
Pete
Thank you for the tips. However, article directory submission doesn’t seem to be the cleanest way of getting traffic. I mean, that the more the better formula applies here, and only this one. It is very clear that no-one reads those articles and they are purely technical so there is no sense in investing in quality article writing for directories. At least for the businesses with high competition.

Good reading! Thanx for the post. I’m fairly new at this so if you have any help advise/criticism you are welcome to advise. “No last posts to return.” Can you advise what this means? Is it because my blog is so new?

Thanks for sharing this, I am starting to get traffic to my blog. I am trying to find all good advice from everywhere and your advice is sound interesting. I want to try, I hope I can get some traffic to my site.
.
Writing lengthy articles never has been my forte’, but I guess I really should reconsider it, and possibly spend more time figuring out how to write better articles that apply directly to my interests.

I agree with you that article submission is a good way of getting traffic and also a reasonable means of getting links as well. But we need to be selective of sites where we post the articles and also some changes in article content is also needed to make it unique content. Good writing
