Article Directory Submission (Free Traffic)

Most of us do not enjoy writing Articles. But understanding that although it is not the “best” source of traffic, it is a “Free” source that with a little time and effort can generate traffic, and ultimately revenue.

When writing your articles the common misconception is that they must be very informative and based solely on your specific niche. While the majority of articles you submit should follow protocol, don’t be afraid to throw in some fun and interesting articles that will grab the readers attention.

Also, if you have dipped your hand in this type of traffic generation method before, you know that MANY of the articles out there are low-quality dime-a-dozen type articles. It may seem like the more the better, but that does not mean you can not write rich, interesting, and exciting articles. If you want people to read them and come to your site. Take some time and write well.

Now, there are several places where you can post your articles, but I personally recommend article directories above all else. Article directories are places where you can get your articles published quickly and easily for free.

You can submit your articles to dozens of different directories,  but here is a list of directories I think you should start at:

www.Ezinearticles.com
www.GoArticles.com
www.Articlecity.com
www.Isnare.com
www.Amazines.com
www.ApprovedArticles.com
www.SubmitYourArticle.com
www.Articlesbase.com

These directories will allow you to publish your articles and post a one-way link back to your website. Before creating your link, think about what page you want to send traffic to. For example, do you want to send your readers directly to your sales page? Or do you want to send them to a page with more information to warm them up a bit. This all depends on your product, and should be split tested to see what converts the best.

So there you have it. Just a simple breakdown of Article submissions. With some intellect and moderate writing skills this can and will generate free traffic to your website.

Kris – One of the great things about article submissions is that people will often scrap your article to fill in content on their website. This will place a link on their site back to yours… 1 article submitted to an article directory can turn into a handful of inbound links to your site!

I agree with you that article submission is a good way of getting traffic and also a reasonable means of getting links as well. But we need to be selective of sites where we post the articles and also some changes in article content is also needed to make it unique content. Good writing

BE careful what link you sue. Ezinearticles has a bunch of restrictions over what pages you can link to. Sales pages. Ecommerce pages and pages with a lot of ads will be rejected. It’s best to link to a blog poster or article on your site, or use a directory that doesn’t restrict you link types.

Also I have had articles re posted on other sites but they leave out the author credit and my link. It’s against the TOS but they do it anyways. Set up a Google alert for your article title and you can see who is stealing your articles.

It’s still a good traffic source, just be aware of the downfalls.

You really need to have a strategy in place in order for article marketing to work well for you. Too many would-be article marketers seem to be afraid or too lazy to experiment w/what works for their niche and the keywords they’re targeting.

Good list to start out with. In terms of the amount of views and traffic I personally see from article marketing, Goarticles, Ezinearticles and Articlesbase are by far the best directories to submit to. So, if you wanna be lazy about the submissions, my recommendation is to go with those three.

By the way, article submissions are not as effective a strategy as it once was. The article directories have all become quite diluted with lousy articles. If you have decent articles though, you’re bound to get some traffic and backlinks. A good article can get republished many times resulting in more and more backlinks & traffic.

I agree that articles can be a great source of free traffic. And I doubly agree that just because you do need quite a bit of content means that it should be shoddy.

Thanks for the tip. I regularly submit articles, around 5-10 articles per week. It may not give me results immediately, but it’s a sure-fire way to get a steady flow of traffic in the future, just be patient and consistent when submitting articles. Also, make sure to provide quality article. One tip though, write short, informative, 400-600 word article instead of long, 800-1500 word article. Why? You want your readers to click on your link in the resource box, let your article be an appetizer, don’t provide all in your article, provide them all the info when they clicked on the link and subscribed to your mailing list. you don’t want to bore your readers reading 800-1500 word article, so just “keep it simple and sweet”.

    Thanks.

@Jean: yes you should definitely get into article marketing. The thing I like most about article marketing is how it gradually builds up a lot of links over time. It takes each directory a certain amount of time for articles to get approved & published. Also once they are published in the directories other sites use these articles for content. With any luck they include the supplied resource box links.

Writing good articles and submitting them to the directories that some have suggested is good. Don’t forget to keyword optimise though, ideally around 1 or 2 phrases maximum, and definitely have the keyword term as early in the title as you can. Also make sure the anchor text linking to your site or blog in the resource box contains your keyword term exactly.

Finally, I’d always ‘close’ for the click in your resource box, and get them to at least read it by not making your article finish the subject entirely, but lead on naturally to the resource box.

Instead of taking them to the exact page on the site which may be: abc.com/link building

But for now, submitting articles to a free article listing stays a superb strategy to (1) brand your self and your web site, (2) enhance the number of one-means backlinks to your site and (three) acquire focused human guests to your site.
