CPA Marketing Series – Google PPC To CPA Introduction
- 22 Comment
This post is a PRIMER.
I am going to assume you know how or already have a Google Adwords account. If you dont know how to set one up then please refer to the Adwords Learning Center. You should really read that anyway. It will take you quite awhile but this is your livelyhood of your Adwords business for years to come we are talking about. I think a week out of your life is well worth it.
There are 3 ways I use Adwords to drive traffic to CPA offers. I use Keyword Targeted Campaigns on Google Search, Keyword Targeted Campaigns on the Content Network and Placement Targeted campaigns for site/page placements that has Google Adsense published on them.
For starters if you have a new account you can expect a somewhat tough beginning. This is just the way of the land. This is also why I recommend a MCC (My Client Center) account. Google allows you to have unlimited accounts using this feature. You had better damn well take advantage of it too. Account history is a very unspoken thing among Adwords but from my own personal testing and experience there are things that effect you from the beginning. Get a few accounts and start establishing right now. Bite the bullet now and get it over with.
Your account history and payments are on a somewhat type of “probationary” period right from the start. Generally I see that I pay a little bit more on new account campaigns than my older ones. Typically this actually lasts from 3-5 months. There is a way around this though but you may not like it. See Google will charge you after your first $50 in clicks has accumulated. They want to establish a relationship with you and it’s vital to your Adwords business that you do so in a very honest and professional manner.
Aside from all the Account history talk you really just need to experience it first hand. I could go on and on about things I have experienced and heard but you really just need to get started.
So for today I want you to read the Adwords Learning Center about a My Client Center Account, Keyword and Placement targeted campaigns. I will be staying up late this evening to start our offer and keyword research posts. Basically I will choose an offer and show you what I would do with it. Trust when I say that what is coming is very in depth and will take quite awhile to digest. So we will break each up into segments.

I think the offical word from Google was that the probationary period for adwords is somewhere around 4 months, and sometimes you pay up to %50 higher CPC than someone who is not in the probationary period.
The good thing though, is that once you get past it, you’re past it in full. Someone who has an account for 2 years has no offical advantage over someone who has had an account for 6 months.
Going to read up on MCCA’s right now.

Awesome. I currently am using wordtracker. If you can incorporate that at all in the discussions that would be great.
Thanks for all the help.

So if you have multiple clients in your MCC, you could setup nearly identical campaigns in each of the accts for some Shock and Awe PPC niche domination? (ie Half the ads that come up are yours …)
or am I smoking crack?

Umm yea,
I really dont want to go into detail on that aspect of Adwords because there are a lot of loopholes to exploit but let’s keep from that. In short though, yes.

Ruck,
Great post.
However in paragrap 4 you say “There is a way around this though but you may not like it.” Will you explain what the workaround is?Thanks

@Solvetheproblem – Yea, it’s spending as much money as you can to get out of the classification period. Generally Adwords charges the first $50, then $100 then it scales some more from there.
@Gokarter – Took me less than 5 minutes to set mine up. Let us know the specifics so we can help.

Funny, I’ve never used Google Adwords for PPC, even when I was doing some Adsense arbitrage last year. Guess I’ll be needing one now for certain, and now regret not activating one last year.

I wonder if you can cut the costs by networking to the right people and being helpful to them. I’m sure they’ll give something back and that could be traffic by linking or a review, tips, whatever. It’s been a good choice for me so far.

Hey Ruck,
Just a question about setting up the MCC account.
When you are asked to specify “My client manager type”, did you specify that you were an affiliate, or did you choose one of the other options like “web consultant”?many thanks,

big $77 I recommend it, only if you are looking for fast money making system and can spend $77
