Tuesday Tips – Improving Landing Page CTR

In PPC you really gain a huge advantage when using landing pages versus direct linking, it puts the control of preselling the visitors in your hands and can result in MUCH higher conversion rates. Of course you have to presell them properly. I’m about to begin a series covering all aspects of landing pages so stay tuned. For now I wanted to give you two tips that you can implement immediately. You may have read these before but have you actually used these tips?

Tip #1 – In some cases, adding a video, audio or a video simulator can dramatically increase your CTR to the offer. Here is an example of what I mean. There are many other images like this that can be used as well. This tip isn’t new but maybe you have a campaign you can try this out on. I KNOW it works, so report back with your own results.

Tip #2 – This one is very important to your landing pages and most of  you who are struggling with getting decent conversions from your landing pages don’t test this enough. Always test your headline! Think of it like this, if you only had one sentence or phrase that would determine if someone gives you a FREE $1,000,000 check or not, I bet you would put more thought into how you used that one sentence versus just saying, “I Want $1,000,000” “Don’t Be Scammed” or “Find Out the Only True Source for Green Tea Products”. Those are merely examples of titles with little thought put into them but also remember to make the heading stand out in very large lettering and even colors.

Tired of Having No Money? Keep Reading CashTactics and You Will Soon Forget Your Financial Headaches!

There’s my cheesy example that took a whole 5 seconds to think up. My motto is always: Be Bold, Be Brave, Be Creative, Be Smart and TEST, TEST, TEST! I’m serious about reading CashTactics. Kris and I have some BIG things in store for each of our readers, so sign up to the forum and RSS. You wouldn’t want to miss out. Cheers to you making $$$$$.

Your timing is perfect :-) I have a campaignn just getting off the ground that’s showing some great potential – it’s *almost* profitable, but I need to boost my CTR on the landing page.

Using video spots is something I hadn’t thought of – what a great tip. I’ll be re-jigging my better landing page today and doing some split testing with video.

That was a BIG surprise. I look forward to the other tips.

Nice tips on how to improve your landing page CTR… What is a good CTR for a landing page in your opinion and experience?

My current CTR from landing page to merchant site is 60%… Do you think there is still room for improvement?

I hope to increase it to 70-75% CTR… by testing different images and different headline… :)

Hey Ivan,

A 60% CTR to the merchant offer is the minimum you should for in most cases. My goal is always 70-80% but never stop testing. Always try to improve. The higher the better obviously. You can be profitable with a lower CTR but you are losing out on money if you don’t push for the highest possible CTR you can get.

Am I a retard or is the video actually a visual of a big babe?

January 20, 2009

Anthony* – You’re a retard! lol.. only kidding.

The ‘video’ is actually just a animated image pretending to be an actual video, in a sense its tricking the visitors or those who see it to want to click on it. I have it set for when someone clicks on it, it takes you to a BIG FAT LADY.. lol as humor. It is demonstrating how effective it is. Instead of linking to a fat lady, you link it from your landing page directly to the offer you are promoting. In many cases you will see a big increase in your landing page CTR and ultimately more profit or revenue.

January 20, 2009

Wow, what a surprise. I wasn’t expecting that..lol

@ Anthony E. Rusell: Yes, it is a big babe..lol

I’m a newbie so I’m soaking up everything on this site. Andrew, you and Kris are extremely generous with your knowledge. I’m not looking for anyone to do my work but it sure helps to have some guideposts. Thank you both.

To the rest of you cats on this site, I look forward to taking this journey to independence and freedom with you.

I wish you all a Happy and very profitable New Year.

Great Stuff. Thanks for all that you do. I’m always checking out your blog.

Question: what software do you use to check out the CTR from your landing page to your offer?

I’m using Google and Yahoo, but they obviously can’t provide this.

Tracking202 and Prosper202 both are free, they track your LP ctr.

So glad to see the emphasis on headlines — it’s amazing how much difference a headline can make on CT. I’ve found Brian Clark’s “10 Sure-Fire Headline Formulas That Work” to be excellent resource to refer to when racking my brain for headline ideas: http://www.copyblogger.com/10-sure-fire-headline-formulas-that-work/

Great post. That is definitely some slick stuff.

What I usually do is take a screenshot of the actual video itself,
but I like how that circle keeps turning as if the video wants to
load, but won’t until you click it.

Is there an image like that which says “click here to see this video”
instead of movie?

Awesome article. Right now I am direct targeting on linksador, trafficvance & mediatraffic and had never thought that NOT targeting directly was better. I will try this way

Good headline + Eyecatching Landing Page + Tracking202 = killer combo
