May 2008: I had my wisdom teeth out a long time ago; so last week it was a couple of poor old teeth with past root canals and other stuff. I'll miss 'em but they had to get gone. I have not had a lot of pain. Umm, if you do have a lot of pain, probably Vicodin or Percocet is the way to go. My dentist prescribed Percocet. But if you also have some reaction to codeine, you could stay awake with either of those medications when you don't want to. I am fairly small boned, and I couldn't sleep for about a day after I took ONE Percocet. It made for no sleep and some really weird thoughts. Which I didn't want. I just wanted some REST. Problems with reaction to codeine are not necessarily scary, but codeine makes some people stay awake when that is the last thing they want.

So glad my dental surgery is over.

Looks like you touched on a "nerve" here Ruck. When I lived in England I went to a teaching hospital to get my wisdom teeth removed. I had to come home on the underground (subway) with my face wrapped and looking like I had been a soccer fight. My husband brought me home and one of my nosey neighbours thought he beat me up and told her neighbour. Little did she know that her neighbour was also my sister in law who politely informed her that I had my wisdom teeth removed and said for her not to jump to conclusions in the future. Like you I had some "good legal drugs"..no wizard or little people in my world but I was fascinated by the wallpaper in our flat.
We might have to start calling you our candy man!

Yo Ruck ,
I could tell you were heading out into space just by your instant message today. Strange how instant messages can show changes in emotions sometimes.LOL

I had wisdom teeth extracted by an oral surgeon and was put under by IV drip. I beleive it was sodium penethol...they keep joking it was truth serum. Well it took all the pain away and I was out. However I remember sort of coming to and opening my eyes to the women dentist, really pretty by the way, with some sort of wrench pulling on my teeth. Then I woke on a table.

Vicoden took over the rest of the day. So have have fun Ruck we will catch you in the cotton candy fields.

I had all 4 wisdom pulled no pain meds. Dentist said to take tylenol. Kinda sucked.

Also had 3 cavities drilled that day. Told the dentist he had to do it all in one day, because I wouldn't want to come back.

I had my bottom two wisdom teeth pulled when I was a pre-teen. Don't think I was given Vicoden, but then again that was a long time ago.

My wife just learned today that she gets another root canal. Her pain killer of choice is Dilotid (sp?), which she came to know and love when she was passing kidney stones.

When I had my wisdom teeth extracted, I had to have all 4 at the same time. They gave me laughing gas. I started to dream I was in a dry well looking up at a spider, and he was communicating with me like a friend, telling me how the surgery was going. At the top, through the opening, was the dental surgeon.

Okay, then I had a bad root canal that left me in tremendous pain for several days. My dentist and I had it out because he refused to give me pain medication beyond asprin. He said I had a threatening nature and said I was barred from returning to his clinic or he would call the police. So, I went to another dentist, relayed what happened, she gave me pain medication, took a look inside, and said he did a lousy job. She then did surgery on my canals again over a series of weeks. In the end, I had 4 root canals and 4 false caps put on remaining roots.

And after I had that done, all my cavities went away. I never received another cavity again. Evidently those 4 molars (upper and lower) were soft, all my life, and kept catching cavities. If I had known that when I was in my teens, I could have saved myself a lot of frustration -- I could have had them removed and capped and be done with it.

I've been cavity free for about 12 years now, while, when I was a kid, I must have had 50 cavities filled, all in the same places.

I had dental problems until a few years ago...my jaw kept locking...it was due to my lower jaw being back too far...which gave me the appearance of buck teeth my whole damn life..but a few years ago I decided to so something about it...
I had braces and surgery...my lower jaw was cut and moved forward and bolts were put in place to keep it there...you can feel the bolt heads through my cheeks now! my body sees them has foreign and has been trying to push them out..
plus my front teeth of my lower jar were too high to get a perfect bite so they had to be removed (partially I guess), then the jaw bone scraped away and then put back in place...I was puffed up for weeks and couldn't swallow water for 2 days...I had bruising down my whole chest (it was entirely yellow)...Now I have a perfect bite so no wear on the joints and no locking but my bottom lip can't feel hot or cold anymore...in fact I feel it in my chin when something touches my lip...and my jaw in no longer proportionate...my left cheek seems smaller than the right...in hindsight, not sure if it was a great idea after all...
during the hospital stay I was given a morphine drip and I think percocets to take home (I can't remember)...after awhile it was more uncomfortable than painful...and awful scary to look at

Had all four wisdom teeth extracted (while awake...had a TON of novocaine injections)..As for the Vic's, can't handle them. Usually get upset stomach or sick....prefer Tylenol3 with codeine if possible. Darvocet is nice also!
