I actually got started in internet marketing right around this time and I was on limited budget and had little knowledge/experience. I was making the most out of subdomains with my hostgator hosting and my single domain.

I quickly learned that the search engines really disliked my sub domains and I really never used them again since then.

Yea,

I forgot to throw in that the SERP's are returning a lot more media type listings as well. Videos and blog postings are starting to serve as a more up to date relevant news source.

Watch Youtube in the rankings and then Engadget and you will see what I mean.

Thanks for sharing your insight! Your instincts have been right before. Google does seem to be really going after fresh content and a lot of it lately.

Im not all that knowledgable on how Google or other Search Engines pick and choose between domains and sub domains, but what Ruck says does seem plausable.
And for that reason, I plan on spending some dough on alot of domains this year, even if it means some of them will just get parked for a while, and even if I pick up domains that steer away from my favorite niche.
I think my stubborness of wanting to stick with my niche costed me and kept from alot of money last year.

This Years Focus:
Make Money.. NOT just make myself happy.

Have you ever felt like someone who keeps rebuilding their house next to a river known for flooding over?

I always watch them on the news during flood season and wonder why they don't simply move away. There must be other places to build a house.

In a similar vein, there are other places to promote a website. Sure the search engines are a great source of traffic, but there must be a better way.
